Ocotillo Wells SVRA is California's premier open desert riding destination, offering 85,000 acres of unrestricted off-road access across the Anza-Borrego Desert. Unlike confined trail systems, Ocotillo Wells allows riders to create their own routes through diverse terrain including sand washes, rock gardens, mud hills, and the famous Shell Reef fossil beds. The park's geology tells a story of ancient seas, with marine fossils visible throughout. From the otherworldly Pumpkin Patch concretions to the challenging Devil's Slide, the area offers terrain for every skill level. The vast open spaces and minimal vegetation create an almost lunar landscape that comes alive with wildflowers after winter rains.

Ocotillo Wells was once a 1920s resort town until the Depression and sandstorms drove everyone away.
The park contains 85,000 acres of open riding area, making it one of the largest OHV parks in the US.
Fossil Shell Reef contains marine fossils from when the area was under the Gulf of California millions of years ago.
The Pumpkin Patch is a geological oddity featuring spherical sandstone concretions that naturally erode from hillsides.
