Contributor Program
Your Build. Your Trail.
Your Byline.
4x4 Playground is built by enthusiasts, for enthusiasts. If you have a story worth telling, a trail you ran, a build you finished, a piece of gear you actually tested, we want to publish it.
What We Publish
We are not looking for press releases or rewritten spec sheets. We publish first-person, experience-driven content from people who actually use their rigs.
Trail & Trip Reports
You drove it. You survived it. Now tell the story. Real trail reports with route details, rig specs, and lessons learned.
Build Guides & How-Tos
Step-by-step walkthroughs of real installs, upgrades, and fixes. No fluff. Show the bolts, the mistakes, and the results.
Honest Gear Reviews
Put it on your rig, use it hard, then tell us what happened. We want 500-mile opinions, not unboxing videos.
Photo Stories
Sometimes the photos say it all. Submit a gallery with captions and let the images do the talking.
Opinion & Culture Pieces
Hot takes on the industry, the community, or the hobby. If you have a perspective worth defending, we want to hear it.
Guest Blog Posts
Have a full article ready to go? Submit a guest post on any 4x4, truck, or overlanding topic. We will edit for style, but the voice stays yours.
What Makes a Good Pitch
Specificity wins
"I installed a 3-inch lift on my '22 Tacoma and here's what broke" beats "Lift kits are great" every time.
Experience over expertise
You don't need to be a mechanic or a journalist. You need to have done the thing and be willing to share what you learned.
Photos matter
Good images elevate everything. Phone photos are fine if they're clear, well-lit, and show the work.
Honesty is the bar
We don't publish advertorials. If a product sucked, say so. If you made a mistake, own it. That's what readers trust.
What You Get
The Catch
Submit Your Pitch
Give us the short version. If it grabs us, we will follow up within a week.
Common Questions
Do I need to be a professional writer?
No. We care about real experience, not journalism degrees. We have editors who will help tighten your draft.
Can I pitch something already published elsewhere?
We prefer original content. If it has been published before, let us know where and we will evaluate.
How long should articles be?
Most of our guides run 1,500–3,000 words. Photo stories can be shorter. Build guides tend to be longer.
Do I keep ownership of my work?
Yes. We license your content for use on 4x4 Playground. You retain ownership and can republish elsewhere after 90 days.
