Kaibab National Forest flanks both rims of the Grand Canyon, offering overlanders access to some of the most remote and spectacular viewpoints of one of the world's natural wonders. The forest's network of gentle fire roads winds through dense ponderosa pine groves, aspen stands, and mountain meadows where elk herds number in the hundreds.
Fun Facts
Kaibab means 'mountain lying down' in the Paiute language.
The Kaibab squirrel, found only on the North Rim, evolved separately from its South Rim cousin due to the Grand Canyon barrier.
The forest contains one of the largest ponderosa pine stands in the Southwest.
President Theodore Roosevelt designated the Kaibab as a game preserve in 1906.
