Royal Blue Wildlife Management Area occupies former coal mining land in the Cumberland Mountains of northeast Tennessee. The transition from industrial resource extraction to recreational paradise is remarkable, old mining roads now serve as OHV trails winding through regenerating forest, along mountain ridgelines, and past reclaimed landscapes. The views from the higher ridges stretch across the Cumberland Mountains toward the Great Smokies.

Royal Blue was once one of the largest coal mining operations in Tennessee.
The area was converted to wildlife management in the 1990s after mining ceased.
The Cumberland Mountains here are part of the oldest mountain chain in North America.
The WMA is managed jointly for wildlife habitat and recreational use.
