A 96-mile private logging road cutting through the vast North Maine Woods, one of the last great wilderness areas in the eastern United States. This working forest road passes pristine lakes, wild rivers, and millions of acres of boreal forest with almost no other traffic.

The Golden Road was built by Great Northern Paper Company for logging operations.
The North Maine Woods region has more moose per square mile than anywhere in the lower 48.
The road crosses some of the largest undeveloped forest tracts east of the Mississippi.
