Colockum Pass Road is one of the most remote mountain crossings in Washington state, connecting the Kittitas Valley near Ellensburg to the Columbia River near Wenatchee. The road climbs through the Colockum Wildlife Area, where vast grasslands give way to subalpine forest and back again. The route sees minimal traffic and offers genuine backcountry solitude unusual for the relatively populated Puget Sound region just over the mountains.
