Gulches ORV Park

Gulches ORV Park near Laurens, South Carolina is privately owned and operated, not a public area, and it is smaller and denser than our record suggested. The park covers 80 acres with about 20 miles of trail rather than the 50 plus we had listed. What it lacks in size it makes up for in variety of surface: rock faces, rock gardens, tank traps, and stretches of sugar sand, with named obstacles including Shipwreck and Death Valley that regulars use as the benchmark for whether a build is sorted. Full-size 4x4s are welcome alongside dirt bikes, four-wheelers, and side-by-sides, so mixed groups work well here. Entry requires a day pass or weekend pass plus a one-time registration and membership step. Check the park's site for current fees and hours, since those change. Safety rules the operator enforces are worth knowing before you arrive: helmets and goggles are required for ATV and motorcycle riders, alcohol is strictly prohibited, and minors must be accompanied by a parent who signs the waiver forms. Camping on site includes both primitive sites and RV hookups, which is what turns a four hour drive from Atlanta or Charlotte into a worthwhile weekend rather than a long day. The park is generally open weekends year round, with upstate South Carolina weather mild enough to ride through the winter and humid enough in July and August that early starts pay off. The mix of hard rock and loose sand in the same 80 acres is unusual and it punishes a one-setup approach to tire pressure. Air down for the rock, expect the sand to want a different number, and bring recovery gear because the tank traps have swallowed better rigs than yours.
