Conecuh National Forest in southern Alabama preserves a landscape that once defined the entire coastal Southeast, longleaf pine savanna maintained by fire, with an understory of wiregrass, wildflowers, and rare carnivorous plants. Sandy trails wind through cathedral-like pine groves draped with Spanish moss, past clear-water creeks, and through pitcher plant bogs that bloom in spectacular displays each spring. The flat, gentle terrain makes this an ideal beginner destination with a uniquely Southern atmosphere.
