Brown Mountain OHV Area sits in the shadow of one of America's most enduring mysteries, the Brown Mountain Lights, unexplained luminous orbs that have been reported above the ridgeline for over 800 years. But the trails themselves need no supernatural attraction, this is some of the most technical riding in North Carolina, with rocky single-track, challenging hill climbs, and dense forest trails that test both driver and machine. The Pisgah National Forest setting provides dramatic mountain scenery.

The Brown Mountain Lights have been reported since at least 1200 AD by Cherokee people.
The US government investigated the lights in 1922 but couldn't explain them.
Theories range from ball lightning to UFOs, but no scientific consensus exists.
The lights appear most frequently between September and November.
