The Winter 4x4 Trip Planner (2026-27)
On the December solstice, Death Valley gets about 9 hours and 40 minutes of daylight (our math). That one number changes every winter trip: earlier camps, colder nights, and a campground that has to be open when you roll in after dark. So we built a free planner for this season.

What's inside
- 12 trails across CA, AZ, NV, TX and FL rated for winter, each with difficulty, best months, a paired campground and a link to the trail page
- Key closure dates flagged, like Valley of Fire closing to every visitor Dec 1 through Dec 14
- The permits that catch people: the Tonto OHV Permit for Bulldog Canyon, the Florida OHV pass for Ocala, the Big Cypress ORV permit and inspection
- A one-page printable checklist for recovery, cold weather, comms, navigation and permits
- Tire pressure starting points by terrain, plus the floor you should not go under without beadlocks
- Every agency fact linked to the agency's own page. No sponsored picks, no parts pitch.
