    Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area occupies an entire peninsula between Kentucky Lake and Lake Barkley in western Tennessee and Kentucky. This is overlanding at its most relaxed, gentle forest roads wind through second-growth hardwood forest, past lakeside camping spots, and through open fields where elk and bison herds graze. The area's designation as a Dark Sky site makes it one of the best stargazing destinations in the eastern US.
