Hard Rock Off-Road Park

Hardrock Offroad Park near Ocala, Florida is a privately operated park and is considerably smaller than our record indicated. The property covers about 100 acres in total, with over 70 acres of trails and roughly five miles of trail mileage, not the 3,000 acres we had listed. Treat it as a concentrated obstacle park rather than a trail system you ride for a full day without repeating yourself. The park is open to 4x4 trucks and Jeeps, side-by-sides, ATVs, and dirt bikes, with no maximum vehicle width restriction, and it runs four motocross tracks alongside the off-road terrain. Named features include a rock garden, steep climbs, and short chunky climbs, which in central Florida means imported and excavated rock rather than native ledge, built deliberately to give the state something it does not have naturally. A motocross helmet is required for riders. No government permit applies, since this is private land, but the operator's own entry requirements do. Check the park's site for current fees and hours before you plan a trip. Camping on site includes 22 hookup sites with water and 30 amp electric plus primitive options, and the park typically operates on weekends. Central Florida sand underlies everything, so the transitions between built rock and native sand are where most people get stuck. Summer here means heat, humidity, and afternoon thunderstorms that arrive on schedule, so the October through April window is far more pleasant. Ocala is minutes away for fuel, tires, and food, and Ocala National Forest is close enough to pair a park day with a day on the forest's mixed-use OHV trails, which is how most visitors from out of state structure the trip.
