What you will find on 4x4 Playground

4x4 Playground is an independent off-road and overlanding planning resource. It exists for one job: helping you decide where to go, whether your rig is ready, and what to change before you leave the driveway. There are 240+ trails in the trail directory, 7,400+ campgrounds in the campground database, and 13 free calculators and planning tools that answer the questions people usually guess at.

Every trail page follows the same shape, so comparing two routes takes seconds rather than an afternoon of forum reading. You get difficulty, terrain type, seasonal notes, GPS waypoints with a GPX download, the modifications a route actually requires versus the ones that only make it more comfortable, live weather, and the campgrounds closest to the trailhead with drive times. Trails are organized by state and by region, so a weekend near Moab, Sedona, the Colorado Rockies, or Big Bend can be planned in one sitting.

Camping works the same way. The campground database covers all 50 states and includes National Park sites, national forest and BLM camping, state parks, and private RV parks, with amenities, price, season, and the trails nearby. If you would rather answer a few questions than scroll a list, the campground matchmaker narrows thousands of sites down to a handful that suit your rig, budget, and how far off pavement you want to sleep.

The tools section is the part people come back for. Tire size and speedometer calibration, gear ratio selection after a tire upgrade, wheel fitment and backspacing, bolt patterns, fuel economy impact, lift cost estimates, recovery gear load ratings, shock selection, and budget planning all live in one place. Each one shows the math instead of hiding it, so you can check the result against your own numbers.

Written guides live in the build guides and gear advice library, covering lift kits, regearing, tires, armor, recovery, payload and towing limits, and first overland trips. Product opinions are separated out under reviews, where verdicts are based on owner reports, published testing, and manufacturer data rather than press trips.

Nothing here is for sale. No parts, no sponsored rankings, no pay-to-play placement. Affiliate links and sponsorships are disclosed and never change a verdict, which is the whole reason the site was built. You can read who runs it and how the guides get made on the about page.
