**Vehicle requirements:** 4WD with low range and rear locker, 33"+ mud-terrain tires, 2–3" lift, rock sliders, and recovery gear required.

**Best season:** April - November

America's first designated wilderness area with forest roads accessing hot springs, cliff dwellings, and some of the most remote terrain in the Southwest. The Gila River canyon is accessible only by fording the river dozens of times.
